About Home Approved Stone
The Home Approved Stone Program is a national stone testing program created by the Marble Institute of America. All products that pass the uniform test will be labeled with a Home Approved Stone logo, clearly showing they have been screened and approved for interior use.Why the Program Was Created
The Marble Institute of America created the Home Approved Stone program with two goals in mind:- To completely reassure consumers that the granite countertops in their homes are just as safe as they are beautiful, practical and durable.
- To put an end to baseless claims that granite countertops can pose a health risk.
Those days are over. The Home Approved Stone program is creating universal, consistent testing protocols that will allow consumers to be totally confident that the granite countertops they choose for their homes are every bit as safe as they are durable, practical and beautiful.
How the Program Works
The Home Approved Stone testing protocols have been developed by highly respected, independent scientists who are experts in radon and radiation, measurement and testing. All products that pass these rigorous tests will be labeled with a Home Approved Stone logo, clearly showing they have been screened and approved for interior use.In other words, when consumers buy products bearing the Home Approved Stone logo, they can be completely confident the products pose no health risk to their families.
The MIA is now in the process of distributing the testing protocols to granite countertop manufacturers, distributors and fabricators across the nation. Details of the program's implementation are still being finalized with scientific consultants and will be in place before any product is marked with a Home Approved Stone logo.
